Mission 2012 – Putting Team GB on the Podium

When London was awarded the 2012 Olympics, UK Sport realised that it was a game-changing opportunity. There would never be a better chance to aim high and develop a true high performance culture. Peter Keen, UK Sport’s Performance Director, had a vision called Mission 2012, a radical approach to leading Olympic and Paralympic sport. He turned to Performance1 to help turn his vision into reality.

Jonathan Males worked closely with Peter and his colleagues in UK Sport to facilitate the design process, lead workshops to engage leaders across sports, and personally guide fifteen Olympic and Paralympic sports through a self-assessment process that reviewed every aspect of their operations. All this was intended to ensure that Britain’s £250m per annum investment in sport was effective. The results from 2012 speak for themselves, Great Britain’s medal tally and overall performance has never been better. Jonathan was uniquely positioned to drive this ambitious, high profile culture change programme because he was credible with tough-nosed senior coaches and sports leaders, and because of his wide experience in the business world as a coach and consultant.
