Our approach
Practical action demands well-founded theory
As we coach, we'll use sport psychology, psychotherapy, neuroscience, organisational development, sociology and systems thinking - but we won't draw attention to it. The mark of success is when what we’re saying just feels right and fits the context you live and work in.
But sometimes it pays to understand how we approach our work:
Thinking straight
To think straight, you need to be self-aware: to understand how your history and inheritance can shape your character, and how this can affect your performance. With the right conditions, you can keep learning through your career, and keep increasing your capability. We can help you be more effective by discovering new ways of thinking about yourself, your role and your environment.
This natural growth process isn’t something you can rely on. Sometimes it’s blocked off - maybe from an early experience that you're still hung up on, or from a strength you rely on so much that it becomes a weakness. We'll help you discover the attitudes, emotions and muddled thinking that are holding you back.
" The moment of victory is much too short to live for that and nothing else. "
Relating well
We’ll help you understand how your early family experience shapes your approach to working with other people, and is reinforced through your attitudes and language. A huge part of this is teaching simple yet powerful conversational skills to help you communicate clearly and develop robust, trusting working relationships.
Acting powerfully
Acting powerfully means seeing the system you’re working in as a whole, and understanding how it fits together. This means having a useful map of how different people and processes interact as a system. This systemic thinking can rapidly change how you think about how you intervene in processes, and help you stop wasting your efforts and make effective, well-informed actions.
We also use specific tools to draw out the wisdom of the crowd, using interventions like world café, Appreciative Inquiry and the statistical analysis tool BaseLine© to help spread energy, learning and change across large groups.
Ongoing development
We’re always keen to discuss our theoretical approaches, and we always want to keep improving. To that end, we run quarterly associate meetings for our associates to foster our own learning and best practice. Also, we know how important it is for our associates to have a time to reflect on their own professional practice, so all our consultants work regularly with their own coaching supervisors.
If you want to discuss anything in more detail, just get in touch.
