Master class – Staying Resilient

September 16th 2010

Have you ever found yourself knocked ‘off course’ by a task … or by other people’s behaviour?

Ever been told “you’re over-reacting” or that “you never seem to respond”?

Do you find it takes you a long time to recover from shocks or emotional events?

Is your workplace causing you long-term strain or affecting your well-being?

This session will explore the difference between two kinds of stress – acute and chronic – and help you identify which one you’re trying to deal with. Through practical exercises, we’ll help you moderate your emotional response to stress – a lack of emotional response can be as damaging as an over-reaction’ – and maintain your equilibrium. And we’ll look at recent research into the resilient mind and body and help you find ways to develop resilience in yourself, enabling you to absorb stress, bounce back and move on.

Our Master Classes are an ideal opportunity to develop specific, practical solutions to typical workplace challenges. With no more than eight people in the group, you’ll be able to learn from other senior people facing similar challenges in a range of organisations. Karen Ellis leads the Master Class (see her work here) in a lively, engaging and insightful style.

What will I learn?

  • How to recognise the symptoms of different kinds of stress – both in yourself and others
  • About the longer term impact of stress and its implications for health and wellbeing
  • How to give feedback to others who are causing you stress (but may not realise they are)
  • Strategies both for avoiding stress and for handling shocks and upsets
  • How to assess whether the stresses you are currently experiencing can be reduced … and what the alternatives might be if not
